Trade Desk Opens Its Koa AI Agents to Claude and Third-Party Tools — Programmatic Agentic Interop Begins

Rather than defending its own AI interface, Trade Desk is opening Koa's underlying agents to external AI stacks. Agentic ad buying without human sign-off is being quietly normalised.

Trade Desk's Zuma platform update to Kokai enters closed beta with six Koa AI agents covering campaign creation, insights, troubleshooting, and audience building — and, notably, opens those agents to third-party AI tools including Claude rather than constraining media buyers to Trade Desk's own interface. Lift studies launch within 48 hours on a single click (previously five to seven days). GeoLift studies and Nielsen IQ integration are added for CPG clients. Bulk edits preview delivery impact before execution. The interoperability decision signals a strategic shift: Trade Desk is prioritising media buying volume over interface ownership, accepting that agencies will wire their own AI stacks and that locking them into a proprietary interface creates friction that costs deals. The downstream implication for programmatic media buyers is that agentic campaign execution — AI agents making and implementing buying decisions without human touchpoints at the level of individual line items — is no longer a hypothetical. It is available in closed beta at the industry's second-largest independent demand-side platform.
