OpenAI in Early Talks for a New Funding Round at a $1.2 Trillion Valuation

Up from $300 billion in March 2026. IPO now described as 'not a near-term priority.' At $1.2 trillion, OpenAI would be the second most valuable company in the world.

Bloomberg reported on 15 September that OpenAI is in early-stage discussions for a new funding round at approximately $1.2 trillion — a fourfold increase from its $300 billion valuation in March 2026. The IPO timeline communicated to investors earlier this year has been quietly deprioritised; Sam Altman's office described a public listing as "not a near-term priority." At $1.2 trillion, OpenAI would be the second most valuable company in the world by market capitalisation. The round's structure, lead investors, and closing timeline were not disclosed.
