Instinct — the autonomous agent startup founded by Noah Shinn and valued at $2.5 billion after a $350 million raise — has given its AI its own dedicated email addresses, enabling it to create accounts on third-party services, handle customer support interactions, manage returns, and correspond with businesses entirely without routing through the user's personal inbox. Existing integrations include 1Password (for login credentials), Stripe (for payment authorisation), and real-time location sharing. Users can forward emails to Instinct, add it to group threads, or allow it to initiate correspondence independently. Email identity is the functional threshold between an AI that acts as a human's proxy — using delegated credentials — and an AI that acts as a first-party participant in digital transactions with its own persistent identity. Combined with payment and authentication integrations, Instinct can now complete end-to-end commercial workflows — place an order, request a return, negotiate a resolution, escalate to a supervisor — without human involvement at any step. For businesses: the share of inbound customer contact originating from AI agents rather than human customers will increase substantially over the next 24 months. Consent verification, fraud detection, and CRM data integrity frameworks built on the assumption that counterparties are human will require revision before that shift reaches material scale.
