ChatGPT Shopping Is Now 65% Feed-Dependent — and 450 Merchants Just Lost a Third of Their Visibility

Profound tracked 1.76 million prompt runs. Feed-integrated results went from 8% to 65% between May and July. Top 10 retailers: 22.5% → 41.8% share. 450 out of 687 tracked merchants: at least one-third visibility loss. Shopify is auto-integrated. Everyone else is on a waitlist OpenAI hasn't opened.

Profound data across 1.76 million tracked ChatGPT prompt runs documents a structural shift in how ChatGPT surfaces product recommendations. Feed-integrated results — products from merchants with direct data feed connections to OpenAI's shopping infrastructure — grew from 8.26 per cent of ChatGPT shopping results in May 2026 to approximately 65 per cent by July, following a deliberate product pivot. The market concentration consequence is immediate: the top 10 retailers grew their collective share of ChatGPT product references from 22.5 per cent to 41.8 per cent. Among 687 tracked merchants, 450 saw at least a one-third reduction in ChatGPT shopping visibility. Sixty-seven merchants gained equivalent ground. Shopify stores are automatically integrated into the feed system; Etsy is connected. All other merchants are on a waitlist for self-serve feed access that OpenAI has not yet opened to independent applicants. The practical implication for e-commerce teams is that ChatGPT shopping visibility is now a supply-chain problem, not a content or GEO strategy problem. Brands not connected via a feed are systematically excluded regardless of the quality or authority of their on-site content. The priority action is applying for feed access — and the window for establishing citation history before the market concentrates further around feed-integrated incumbents is actively closing.
